JDC Staff classifies juveniles by gender, charge type, prior criminal history, and behavior. The facility has pod housing with individual cells. All movement and activities are completed in the classification of the juvenile.

A court hearing that is required by the Revised Code (R.C. Section 2151.314) to determine whether detention is required. The detention hearing will occur no later than seventy-two hours after the child is placed in detention, or the next court day, whichever is earlier. The juvenile will appear in front of the Judge or a magistrate.
When the detention staff notifies the custodial parent of their child being detained, a detention hearing date and time will be given to the custodial parent.

Parents, foster parents, guardians, custodians may schedule two visits per week. Each new week begins on Saturday. All visitations must be scheduled at least one hour prior to the scheduled visit. Visitation slots are limited in numbers. More Visitation Informaton
Attorneys and clergy are allowed to schedule a visit but JDC staff will need to get approval from the custodial parent prior to the visit. Attorneys will need photo identification. Clergy will also need to have proper identification (driver's license or other photo identification and the state clergy card). Attorneys and clergy may visit anytime provided it is within the facilities Safety & Security Policy. Attorneys and clergy will need to call and speak with the on-duty supervisor to schedule an appropriate time for them to visit.
JDC also has volunteers that conduct religious services throughout the week. Juvenile may attend these meetings on a voluntary basis.
All clothing and hygiene items are provided. Medication and school work will need to be delivered to JDC at the earliest convenience More School Informaton.
JDC has a medical provider (see medical drop box) that will administer medication, conduct sick calls, and complete physical exams throughout the week. The nursing staff will administer medication to the juveniles after the medication is received and the Authorization Form has been completed by the custodial parent (see medical drop box). Nursing staff are available 24/7 for emergencies and have specific hours that they are on site to provide services at JDC.
All juveniles will attend school during the school year. The local school district will be notified daily that the juvenile is being detained in JDC until their release.
It is the responsibility of the parents to contact the local school district and get their child's school work to JDC. After the school work is completed, it is the responsibility of the parents to return the completed school work to the home school district. While the JDC school teachers will not be giving grades, the juveniles will get school credit for attendance and the teachers will assist the juveniles in their school work, so the juvenile does not fall behind in their work. Grades will be given by the home school districts.
The custodial parent will be notified during the intake process that the juvenile is being detained in JDC. After some screening questions from the parent by JDC staff, the juvenile is entitled to a 5-minute intake call.
If a juvenile does not receive a visit during that week's visitation schedule, the juvenile is permitted to have a 5-minute phone call with the custodial parent.
Telephone calls are a privilege and may be suspended. Telephone calls to clergy and attorney's will not be suspended.
During the intake process, all juveniles are asked a series of questions regarding their past, present, and future plans. Some of the same questions are addressed with the custodial parent during the "intake call." The Court Clinic and JDC staff complete evaluations and routinely check on the juveniles. If at any time, there is abnormal behavior, concerns, and a screening or evaluation detects suicidal tendencies or ideologies, the juvenile may be placed on a suicide watch.
While on suicide watch, the juvenile is checked more frequently by staff. The Court Clinic will evaluate the juvenile while they remain on suicide watch status. The juvenile is also issued special clothing to better protect the juvenile while on watch.

Postage of two stamps per week is provided by the facility. Additional stamps may be provided by the custodial parent or others that include them in the letters sent to your child.
No packages of any type will be accepted.
