1. The flag should be folded in its customary manner.
2. It is important that the fire be fairly large and of sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the flag.
3. Place the flag on the fire.
4. The individual(s) can come to attention, salute the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a brief period of silent reflection.
5. After the flag is completely consumed, the fire should then be safely extinguished and the ashes buried.
6. Please make sure you are conforming to local/state fire codes or ordinances.

Alkaline batteries can be disposed of with household waste. 9 volt batteries must be taped up prior to disposal.

Here are tips on getting rid of furniture:

• Can you pass it along to someone who can use it?
• Can you sell it?
• Organizations that might take it:
  • Furniture Bank Network
  • Habitat for Humanity
• Your trash collector may take it. Call first to see if there is a fee or if it is included in your service. (They may require to wrap the furniture in plastic.)

Environmental Enterprises will take any household hazardous waste including gasoline. Their number is 513-541-1823.

A few tips specifically for gasoline disposal. (Note: this district is not necessarily recommending these options, but is listing them as informational purposes.)

1. Check appearance and smell to determine its usability. Older gas is darker and smells off.
2. If older gas isn’t contaminated, consider diluting it by adding fresh fuel for reuse. (This suggestion may not be appropriate for all engines.)
3. With great caution, small amounts of gas can be evaporated if exposed to air. If using this method, care must be taken that the gas is not near anything flammable or near pets or children.
4. You may want to ask your local car service place if they’ll take your gas. Most won’t but it may be worth a try.

Large amounts of turpentine or paint thinner can go to Environmental Enterprises for disposal. Their number is 513-541-1823.

If you have a small amount, you can evaporate it:

• Place product in a well-ventilated area such as outside or in a garage.
• Keep out of direct sunlight.
• Make sure there pets or children cannot access it.
• Allow the product to evaporate. Pouring into a wide shallow container may quicken evaporation time.
• Once evaporated, the containers can be thrown out with regular trash.
• Soaked rags can also be airdried and placed in regular trash.

Product can also be filtered through a coffee filter and reused.
